Toyota Racing Development (TRD) president David Wilson will step down from his position on December

Toyota Racing Development (TRD) president David Wilson will step down from his position on December 16. Wilson, who has been with the organization for 35 years, will be succeeded by Tyler Gibbs, the current general manager. Gibbs will take over as president following Wilson’s retirement.

Reflecting on his time with the team, Wilson expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to work alongside dedicated and talented individuals. He thanked his colleagues at TMNA, Toyota Motor Corporation, industry and team partners, and athletes for their trust, support, and friendship throughout his career. Wilson expressed confidence in Gibbs and his team, believing that they will continue to enhance TRD’s world-class legacy both on and off the track.

Wilson was appointed as TRD president in January 2014. Prior to his current role, he held various positions within the organization, including design engineer, vice president of operations and engineering, vice president of production and strategic planning, and vice president of sales, operations, and planning.

During his tenure, Wilson has overseen Toyota’s success in various racing competitions, including NASCAR, IMSA, NHRA, USAC, SCORE, CART, CORR, Grand-Am, the Indy Racing League, and MTEG. Notable victories achieved under his leadership include the 12 Hours of Sebring, the Baja 500 and 1000, the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the Daytona 500, the Indianapolis 500, the Chili Bowl, and Petit Le Mans.

Gibbs, who joined TRD in 1996, currently holds the position of overseeing competition, engineering, commercial, and administration activities. When he assumes the role of president, Gibbs will be responsible for all TRD operations and activities in North America. Additionally, he will have oversight of TRD facilities located in Costa Mesa, California (headquarters and engine), Salisbury, North Carolina (chassis and team support), and Mooresville, North Carolina (GR Garage and Toyota Performance Center).
