Toyota’s Yuichi Nakayama Replaces Injured Ben Barnicoat in High-Stakes 6H Spa Debut

Toyota Racing Shakes Things Up: Yuichi Nakayama to Replace Ben Barnicoat at 6H Spa!

In a surprising turn of events, Akkodis ASP has announced that Toyota driver Yuichi Nakayama will be stepping in to substitute for Ben Barnicoat at the upcoming 6 Hours of Spa as Barnicoat continues his recovery from a recent injury.

This shift will mark Nakayama’s FIA World Endurance Championship debut at the renowned Spa-Francorchamps circuit from 8th to 10th May. The Super GT and Super Formula sensation is ready to showcase his skills on this prestigious stage.

Barnicoat’s absence comes as a result of a mountain-biking mishap just before the 12 Hours of Sebring in mid-March, causing the Lexus factory driver to miss out on the IMSA SportsCar Championship round at Sebring. Esteban Masson had previously filled in for Barnicoat at the 6 Hours of Imola, where the #78 Lexus RC F LMGT3 secured a commendable third place.

Nakayama, a seasoned competitor in Super GT, Super Taikyu, and Super Formula, has been actively involved in various racing series since 2014. His addition to the Akkodis ASP lineup brings a wealth of experience and talent to the team.

The upcoming 6 Hours of Spa will be a crucial event for Nakayama, as he aims to make a strong impression alongside his teammates Finn Gehrsitz and Arnold Robin in the #78 car. Meanwhile, the #87 Lexus crew, consisting of Jose Maria Lopez, Clemens Schmid, and Petru Umbrarescu, remains unchanged and will be looking to maintain their competitive edge.

Nakayama’s participation in a recent test session at Spa-Francorchamps indicates his dedication to familiarizing himself with the Lexus RC F LMGT3, preparing meticulously for the challenges that lie ahead.

As the motorsport world eagerly anticipates the action-packed race at Spa, all eyes will be on Nakayama as he seizes this opportunity to shine on a global stage. Stay tuned for more updates on this thrilling development in the world of racing.
