Toyota Motor Europe (TME) announced that it sold 1,217,132 vehicles of Toyota and Lexus models in 2024, outperforming the market, as its sales increased by +4% compared to the previous year.
The good performance of TME was supported by the percentage of electrified vehicles, which grew to 74%, an increase of +4%, with sales of battery electric vehicles rising by +18%, plug-in hybrids by +36%, and hybrids by +9%.
By brand, Toyota sold 1,128,948 vehicles between January and December 2024, an increase of +3% compared to the previous year, allowing the Japanese brand to solidify its position as the second best-selling passenger car brand in Europe.
The Yaris range led sales with the Cross version selling 204,787 units and the Yaris selling 176,782 vehicles. Meanwhile, the Corolla range with 163,393 units occupied the second position, followed by the new C-HR with 131,622 vehicles.
The overall percentage of electrified vehicle sales from Toyota is now at 73%, with the volume increasing by 9% year-on-year. Additionally, sales of 100% electric vehicles increased by 10% compared to the previous year, with 33,821 vehicles sold. Sales of plug-in hybrids grew by 80% compared to the previous year with the introduction of the new Toyota C-HR PHEV.
The sales of Lexus reached 88,184, representing a 19% annual growth, surpassing the premium market in Europe, while the sales of its electrified models increased by 24% year-on-year.
During the 12 months of 2024, Lexus recorded its highest-ever market share of 2.5%, an increase of 0.4 points. Additionally, Lexus reported a sales percentage of 99% for electrified models in Western Europe and 91% across the entire European region, benefiting from the performance of the new luxury compact Lexus LBX hybrid with 23,018 units sold and the Lexus NX (available in both plug-in hybrid and hybrid variants), with 26,023 vehicles sold.
It is also worth noting the Proace commercial vehicle range from Toyota Professional, which achieved a historic sales record of 94,283 vehicles in 2024, a 20% increase compared to the previous year.
