Toto Wolff Drops Bombshell Update on Max Verstappen’s Possible Move to Mercedes

In a shocking turn of events, Toto Wolff, the team principal of Mercedes, has made a jaw-dropping statement regarding the potential signing of Max Verstappen. Amid swirling rumors of Verstappen making a move to Mercedes, Wolff has revealed that the chances of this happening next year are “very low.”

Despite the reigning four-time World Champion being on Mercedes’ radar, Wolff emphasized that their current lineup consisting of Kimi Antonelli and George Russell is what they cherish and believe in for the future. However, with the uncertainty surrounding Verstappen’s future in Formula 1, Wolff acknowledges the importance of monitoring the situation closely.

Max Verstappen, who has clinched four consecutive Drivers’ titles, is currently trailing in P3 in the Drivers’ Championship, 43 points behind the leader. His contract with Red Bull runs until the end of 2028, but speculations have been rife due to the existence of a performance-related exit clause, especially with the significant regulatory changes set to shake up Formula 1 in 2026.

The rumor mill went into overdrive when George Russell, Mercedes’ current driver, hinted at ongoing conversations between Verstappen and Mercedes. This fueled further speculation about a potential blockbuster move.

When questioned about the likelihood of Verstappen joining Mercedes, Wolff expressed skepticism, stating, “I give it a very little probability that this is going to happen.” He emphasized the need for long-term planning and understanding the evolving dynamics of the sport.

While Wolff dismissed the idea of playing a waiting game with their lineup, he underscored the importance of staying abreast of developments to make informed decisions for the future. With Mercedes having a clean slate for the 2026 season and neither Russell nor Antonelli under contract for the following year, the Formula 1 landscape could witness a seismic shift in the coming years.

As the motorsport world eagerly awaits Verstappen’s next move, the potential of seeing the Dutch sensation don the iconic Silver Arrows remains a tantalizing prospect. Stay tuned as the drama unfolds in the high-octane world of Formula 1.
