Mercedes had a good performance on track at the United States Grand Prix, particularly with Lewis Hamilton who finished the sprint race and the main race in second place. However, after the main race, he was disqualified due to his car’s plank not complying with the regulations.
The executive director and team principal of Mercedes, Toto Wolff, said that tuning work in a sprint race is more challenging, but he acknowledged the mistake and emphasized that what happened in Austin must serve as a learning experience:
– Tuning choices in a Sprint weekend are always a challenge with only one hour of free practice – and even more so on a circuit with bumps like COTA and using a new set. In the end, all of that doesn’t matter; others got it right where we got it wrong, and there is no room for maneuver in the rules. We need to take the blow, learn, and come back stronger next weekend.’
