Mercedes F1 in Turmoil as Toto Wolff Reveals Shocking Car Issue
The reigning champions of Formula 1, Mercedes, have been plunged into chaos as team principal Toto Wolff confirms a major flaw with their W15 car. The Brackley-based team has been struggling with performance recently, with Wolff pinpointing the issue to the rear axle of their car.
In a surprising turn of events, Mercedes has been facing a nightmare on the track, particularly with driver Kimi Antonelli failing to score in six out of the last seven races. Although George Russell managed to salvage some points, his impact has significantly dwindled since his victory in Montreal.
Wolff disclosed to Sky DE the specific problem plaguing Mercedes, stating, “It wasn’t a problem with aerodynamics. The problem with the new rear axle…made the rear end completely unstable and it didn’t give any confidence.”
To combat this, Mercedes reverted to an older suspension setup during the Hungarian Grand Prix in a bid to restore driver confidence. The decision seemed to have paid off, with both drivers showing improved performance during practice sessions.
Russell expressed his newfound confidence but emphasized the need for more speed to compete at the top. “We just need to find that last little bit before it starts clicking again for us,” he remarked.
As Mercedes scrambles to rectify their car issues, the Formula 1 world waits with bated breath to see if the renowned team can reclaim its dominance on the track.
