Mercedes Boss Slams Red Bull as ‘Embarrassing’ After Canadian GP Protest Backfires

In a shocking turn of events at the Canadian Grand Prix, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff did not hold back in his scathing criticism of Red Bull’s decision to protest the race results. Following George Russell’s first victory of the season in Montreal, Red Bull, led by Christian Horner, alleged that Russell had violated regulations while driving behind the safety car. This led to a lengthy post-race investigation by stewards, ultimately resulting in no changes to the final standings.

Wolff, speaking at the premiere of a new F1 movie in New York, expressed his disbelief at Red Bull’s actions, calling them “embarrassing” and “petty.” He highlighted the delayed timing of Red Bull’s protest and their history of launching what he referred to as “ridiculous” challenges. The Mercedes boss emphasized the importance of racing and winning on the track rather than through off-track controversies.

The rivalry between Russell and defending champion Max Verstappen has been intensifying, with Verstappen recently receiving penalties for a collision with Russell in Barcelona. This incident has pushed Verstappen dangerously close to a race ban due to accumulating penalty points. The heated competition between the two drivers has been a focal point of the F1 season, with Verstappen currently holding a 19-point lead over Russell in the drivers’ championship standings as they gear up for the upcoming Austrian Grand Prix.
