Toto Wolff says Mercedes aims to finish the first half of 2024 ‘strongly’ following five consecutive podium finishes.

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff is aiming to finish the first half of the season strongly after a less than impressive start. The team has shown significant improvement in recent races, securing five consecutive podium finishes, including a win in Austria and a recent podium at Hungaroring. This success has propelled them up the Constructors championship standings, closing the gap to Ferrari to just under 80 points. Looking ahead to the Belgian GP, Wolff expressed his optimism and emphasized the importance of maintaining their current momentum.

Wolff highlighted the team’s positive streak, with five consecutive podium finishes, including Lewis Hamilton’s 200th podium last weekend. He stressed the team’s goal of continuing to perform well in the upcoming race and the significance of ending the first half of the season on a high note. The Austrian billionaire explained that a strong finish before the break would provide a great boost for the team as they prepare for the second half of the season.

Acknowledging the competitiveness of the top teams, Wolff mentioned that the upcoming race at Spa will be highly competitive. He highlighted the need for Mercedes to be at their best and acknowledged that they currently lack the speed compared to some of their rivals. However, he reassured that the team is dedicated to improving the pace and making the car faster and better with each race. This ongoing effort is crucial for them to remain competitive and achieve positive results in the upcoming races.

Wolff expressed his satisfaction with the team’s current direction and the recent improvements that have allowed them to compete for podium finishes. While acknowledging that they are not yet at the level of challenging for victories every weekend, he emphasized the team’s hard work and continuous improvements. He expressed optimism for the future and the team’s aim to maintain their momentum and strive for more wins.

Discussing the challenges of the Belgian GP, Wolff highlighted the differences between Spa-Francorchamps and the previous race in Budapest. He mentioned that Spa’s cooler atmosphere and high-speed corners present a different set of challenges compared to the technical layout of Budapest. He expressed curiosity about how their car, the W15, will perform under these conditions and the importance of learning from this experience to prepare for the second half of the season.

In conclusion, Toto Wolff is eagerly anticipating the upcoming Belgian GP and the opportunity to test the W15. Mercedes’ main goal is to compete for race wins at every event, although they currently face challenges due to a lack of speed in their car. Wolff emphasized the importance of learning from each race, including the upcoming Belgian GP, and applying those lessons to improve their performance in the second half of the season.
