This move distinguishes him as the first person to follow Hamilton from Mercedes to Ferrari since Hamilton’s move was revealed in early February. Toto Wolff, an influential figure within the Mercedes Formula 1 team, recently gave a reassuring update on Jerome D’Ambrosio’s professional path, emphasizing that “everything is fine” and highlighting that D’Ambrosio has not yet finalized his plans for the future. Amid rumors, there has been significant speculation about D’Ambrosio’s possible departure from Mercedes, with discussions suggesting a notable switch to Ferrari, where he would collaborate with Lewis Hamilton after the latter’s decision to leave Brackley at the end of the 2024 season. Previous reports from RacingNews365 had stirred the motorsport community with news that 38-year-old D’Ambrosio was about to join Ferrari, possibly before the end of the 2024 summer break. This move distinguishes him as the first person to follow Hamilton from Mercedes to Ferrari since Hamilton’s move was revealed in early February. However, it is understood that D’Ambrosio’s considerations for the move are motivated by a desire to return to continental Europe, rather than a direct link to Hamilton’s switch. Wolff clarified D’Ambrosio’s current situation with Mercedes, stating: “I think he’s with us at the moment. The situation is more for personal reasons, that he is evaluating options on what to do. I think it’s something he should talk about, but it’s all good. Let’s see how this unfolds.” Jerome D’Ambrosio has had a remarkable journey within motorsport management, quickly rising to prominent roles after his racing career ended in 2020. Transitioning from a successful period as a Marussia and Lotus F1 driver, D’Ambrosio quickly climbed the team management hierarchy. His management skills were recognized at Venturi Racing in Formula E, where he was promoted from deputy team principal to the top role in a short period of time. In 2023, his relationship with Wolff and his subsequent informal involvement with the Mercedes F1 team led to his appointment as director of driver development, overseeing the development of the team’s promising junior talents. D’Ambrosio’s visible presence alongside Wolff, especially acting as interim team principal during Wolff’s absence for knee surgery, highlights his integral role within the team. Despite current uncertainties and speculations about his future, Wolff’s comments suggest a fluid situation, with possibilities of D’Ambrosio aligning with Hamilton at Ferrari next season still in sight.
