Mercedes has had a highly successful performance during the recent race weekend in Montreal. The team’s principal, Toto Wolff, attributes their improved performance in the last three races to the addition of new components to the W15 car. Despite competition from faster teams like McLaren, Ferrari, and Red Bull, Mercedes has demonstrated its ability to compete at the highest level in races in Imola, Monaco, and Montreal.
Wolff emphasized that the team’s success can be attributed to developments in areas of the W15 that may not be immediately visible. While visible changes, such as the introduction of a new front wing design in Monaco, often receive more attention, it is the less noticeable modifications that have had a significant impact on Mercedes’ performance.
In addition to these developments, Mercedes secured their first pole position in 20 races during the Canadian Grand Prix. Unfortunately, they were unable to convert this good start into a victory due to challenging weather conditions in Montreal. However, they secured their first podium of the season.
Despite their impressive performance, Wolff expressed some disappointment with the team’s result, feeling that they missed crucial opportunities. Both drivers, Russell and Hamilton, showed moments of brilliance during the race but were hindered by changing weather conditions and strategic errors.
Nevertheless, Mercedes sees their performance in Montreal as a positive result and aims to continue improving in the upcoming races. The team will face the challenge of the highly aerodynamic and fast-paced circuit in Barcelona while seeking more podiums and valuable points.
