Toto Wolff aplaude Lewis Hamilton por ‘comportamento muito esportivo’ ao deixar George Russell passá-lo no Grande Prêmio do Japão.

The choice of Lewis Hamilton to allow his teammate, George Russell, to overtake brought much-needed points for the Mercedes team. Toto Wolff, the team principal, faced several challenges during the race, as Mercedes continues to struggle this season. In an attempt to secure a better result, Hamilton made the decision to let Russell pass, receiving praise for his teamwork.

Wolff suggested over the team radio that Russell be allowed to overtake Mercedes. Hamilton explained the reason behind this unexpected move, but received criticism from fans. Mercedes itself even distanced itself from the decision, stating that ultimately it was Hamilton’s choice.

Despite the criticism, Hamilton’s decision allowed George Russell to finish seventh in the Japanese Grand Prix. This move was applauded as “extremely fair play” by Wolff, who also noted that Hamilton knew a podium finish was unlikely. Instead, the focus was on understanding why Hamilton’s performance was lacking speed.

Hamilton’s difficulties prevented any chance of a podium finish in the race, leaving the 39-year-old driver disappointed with his result. Toto Wolff revealed that the temperature difference between the two stages was a contributing factor to Hamilton’s poor performance at the Suzuka circuit. However, Wolff clarified that this was not the only reason for Mercedes’ struggles. The team was trying to stretch the period as much as possible to stick to a one-stop strategy for a better finish.

At the moment, Mercedes will need to quickly regain its form to compete against Red Bull and have any chance in the world championship. The team’s hopes of ending the season on a high note with Hamilton are constantly diminishing.
