Q: Max, an incredible performance securing pole position. Can you share with us how you managed such a remarkable lap? The atmosphere was electrifying, with everyone rooting for the Ferrari driver. Despite a challenging Friday, you managed to deliver an amazing lap. Can you tell us how it was? Max Verstappen: It’s been a tough weekend so far, including this morning. So I’m extremely happy to be on pole here. It was unexpected, but we made some last-minute adjustments before qualifying, which seem to have improved the car’s performance. I could push harder, and this track is simply amazing. During a qualifying lap, being on the edge and close to the gravel… I even touched the gravel on the last corner. I’m still full of adrenaline. It’s an incredible feeling.
P: Are you aware that you are making history? With eight consecutive pole positions, you are now tied with the legendary Ayrton Senna. How does it feel to be reaching such an important milestone in the history of motorsport? MV: Yes, it is definitely a fantastic start to the year and a very special moment. It has been 30 years since Senna’s death on this track. So, I am really pleased to secure the pole position here. It is a beautiful tribute to him. He was an extraordinary Formula 1 driver, especially when it came to qualifying laps. Overall, it is a great day for me and the team. I couldn’t be happier.
P: Congratulations. MV: Thank you.
P: Moving on to second place, Oscar Piastri, you had a great performance. Can you tell us about your qualifying session? It seemed like you were struggling initially, but then managed to improve on the first attempt in Q3 and ended up securing a place on the front row. How was your lap? Oscar Piastri: It was good. I had a bit of a messy last corner, but it is incredibly challenging to execute a perfect lap on this track. However, I am really happy with my performance. I felt comfortable with the car since we started practicing yesterday. I was very close to securing the pole position, so overall, I am very satisfied. It has been a while since I was in this position, so I am pleased with how the weekend is progressing so far.
P: With the recent improvements in your McLaren, do you believe you can fight for a better result tomorrow? OP: I think so. In the past, we would normally say no, but based on our recent performances, we have learned to say yes. We will see what we can achieve. We have been consistently fast throughout the weekend. Of course, we cannot underestimate Max and Red Bull, as we have just seen. However, our confidence is high. Although it is not the easiest track for overtaking, we believe we can achieve something great.
P: Congratulations on your performance. OP: Thank you.
P: Well done, Lando Norris. You recently celebrated your first victory in Formula 1. Today’s qualifying session was impressive. The crowd was applauding you, recognizing your talent in Formula 1. How was your lap? How was your qualifying session? Lando Norris: Thank you. Yes, it was great. P3 is a solid result, especially considering we were less than a tenth of a second away from securing P1. The margins are incredibly small, but as a team, we had a fantastic day and a great weekend so far. Oscar did a remarkable job, as did Max. It’s an exciting moment for us. We are close, and I am looking forward to tomorrow.
P: Are you aiming for a podium finish or do you have other aspirations now that you are getting used to success? LN: Yes, we still need to adjust to our recent achievements, but we are getting there. It is also satisfying to be ahead of Ferrari. The race tomorrow will be intense. I hope it will be an exciting spectacle for the fans, as well as a thrilling experience for us drivers. However, it will not be easy, especially when lap times are so close. Much will depend on turn 1, the first lap, strategy, and pit stops. It will be a challenging race.
