Fernando Alonso once again failed to make it into Q3 in the Mexico City Grand Prix. The Aston Martin driver secured 13th place in yesterday’s qualifying session – which does not take away his hopes of scoring points.

The veteran two-time champion admitted that they have not been able to extract good performance from the AMR23 at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez: ‘It was a very complicated qualifying session and we haven’t been performing at our best so far this weekend. We tried some different setups, but it seems like we are losing time everywhere throughout the lap.’

Despite the difficulties so far, Alonso remains confident in achieving a top ten result… using last week’s performance in the United States Grand Prix as an example: ‘The race will be tough for everyone with high temperatures, and there is usually a lot of traffic on this circuit. However, we still hope to score points. After all, we were in the top ten in Austin despite starting from the pit lane. It’s a long race and we will continue to give our best.’
