Former NASCAR champion Tony Stewart has unleashed a scathing critique of the current state of the sport, pointing fingers at the “hurdles and roadblocks” that have led to its downfall. Stewart, a three-time Cup Series champion, has not held back in his assessment of NASCAR’s decline since his retirement in 2016. The racing legend attributes the sport’s struggles to a series of controversial decisions surrounding cars and championship formats over the years.

In a recent appearance on the Rubbin’ Is Racing podcast, Stewart did not mince words when discussing NASCAR’s predicament. He lamented the self-inflicted challenges that have placed the sport in a precarious position, despite still having elements that fans can be excited about. The former team owner and driver expressed his frustration at the missed opportunities and the downward trajectory that NASCAR has taken.

Stewart’s disappointment with NASCAR’s current race day atmosphere was palpable as he compared it unfavorably to the fan interactions at NHRA events where he also competes. The veteran racer emphasized the need for NASCAR to learn from other racing series and improve fan engagement to revitalize the sport’s appeal.

As one of NASCAR’s all-time greats, Stewart’s bold comments are sure to spark a debate within the racing community. His insights into the self-inflicted challenges facing NASCAR shed light on the underlying issues that have contributed to its decline. It remains to be seen how NASCAR will respond to Stewart’s no-holds-barred assessment and whether his criticisms will prompt any changes within the sport.
