In today’s fast-paced world, Android Auto and CarPlay have become essential for drivers. Despite attempts to block phone mirroring, these systems are too important for drivers to give up on. Even drivers with older cars are jumping on the bandwagon and embracing the convenience and features that Android Auto and CarPlay offer.

But what about cars that didn’t come with Android Auto and CarPlay from the factory? Well, there’s good news. Thanks to companies like Sony, drivers can still enjoy these systems in their vehicles. Sony has launched a range of media receivers that can be installed in a wide variety of car models. With different price levels and features to suit every customer category, Sony’s lineup is truly impressive.

However, it’s not just about the hardware. Software updates are crucial to ensure a smooth experience with Android Auto and CarPlay on an aftermarket head unit. Recognizing this, Sony has recently released a pack of updates for multiple head units. This update brings the software version to 2.0 on all models, providing users with the latest features and enhancements.

But it’s not just about new features. Sony takes security seriously. That’s why they have addressed a critical security issue reported by researchers from the Trend Micro Zero Day Initiative. This security flaw could potentially allow attackers to execute arbitrary code on vulnerable media receivers. However, it’s important to note that users themselves must run the malicious file for the exploit to work.

The vulnerability lies in how Sony’s software parses WMV/ASF files. Sony was made aware of this issue in February and promptly developed patches for all affected media receivers. The rollout of these patches is currently underway, with the security advisory being updated on July 1.

So, how can users download and install the update? While it may seem daunting at first, the process is actually quite simple. Since the head unit doesn’t have an internet connection, the update must be downloaded manually. Users can visit Sony’s website and download the firmware update package. This package contains three files (.FIR, .U88, and .UP6) that need to be copied to a USB memory drive. It’s important to ensure that only these three files are copied to the root directory of the USB drive.

Once the files are copied, users can connect the USB drive to their media receiver in the car. With the engine turned on and the head unit powered on, users can navigate to Settings > General > Firmware version > Update. Following these simple steps will ensure that users have the latest software version installed on their media receivers.

In conclusion, Android Auto and CarPlay are becoming increasingly popular among drivers. Sony, a leading company in the field, is committed to providing users with the best experience possible. From their impressive lineup of media receivers to timely software updates and security patches, Sony is dedicated to keeping drivers connected and safe on the road.

UPDATE: Exciting News for Car Enthusiasts! Get Ready to Upgrade Your Car Stereo!

In a groundbreaking development, car owners can now enhance their driving experience with the latest aftermarket head unit upgrades. Gone are the days of relying on smartphones or tablets for navigation and entertainment while on the road. With these cutting-edge upgrades, you can enjoy the benefits of Android Auto and CarPlay support, seamlessly integrated into your vehicle.

One of the most significant advantages of these head unit upgrades is their compatibility with a wide range of car models. With floating displays, installation becomes a breeze, as they do not obstruct access to other dashboard buttons. Say goodbye to complicated installations and hello to a hassle-free upgrade!

But what if your car already supports Android Auto and CarPlay, but only through wired connections? Fear not! You don’t have to invest in a third-party media receiver. Instead, you can opt for Android Auto and CarPlay wireless adapters. These adapters connect to the USB port used by the phone mirroring system and utilize Bluetooth technology to establish a wireless connection with your smartphone. And the best part? The prices of these adapters have significantly dropped, making it an affordable option for everyone. For approximately $50, you can upgrade from wired to wireless and enjoy the convenience of automatic loading every time you start your engine.

Imagine the freedom of keeping your phone in your pocket while still having access to Android Auto and CarPlay. These devices remain connected to your head unit, ensuring a seamless experience every time you get behind the wheel. If you prefer a more convenient solution right from the start, you can invest in an aftermarket media receiver that supports wireless connections. While this option may be slightly more expensive, it offers unparalleled convenience and a superior driving experience.

So, what are you waiting for? Tap that update button, sit back, and let your stereo do the rest. With just a few minutes of your time, you can unlock a whole new world of possibilities. Check the Settings menu on your media receiver to confirm that the update was successfully installed. Get ready to revolutionize your driving experience with these incredible head unit upgrades!
