When we talk about cars like the Bugatti Chiron, we think of highly exclusive machines that are only within the reach of an elite who do not look at prices to acquire the best that automotive engineering has to offer. Now, imagine someone capable of paying more than a Bugatti costs… just for a license plate!
When the most exclusive supercar in the world is no longer enough, there are those who seek to stand out even more among the very rich. Namely, by buying license plates that cost more than any of the supercars that display them.
In Australia, the license plate with the rare combination “NWS 1”, the first one issued in the state of New South Wales, in the distant year of 1910, has already reached the incredible sum of €6.5 million at auction, five times the highest price ever paid for a license plate in the country.
According to records, this license plate was first acquired in 1930 by a railroad magnate, who passed away in 1961. At the time, his widow reportedly turned down an offer of €200,000 for this plate, which she used on her Ford Fairmont. After his death, the “NWS 1” remained preserved by the family, until now.
