VW is preparing to offer particularly sporty versions of the new 100% electric ID.2 GTI model, which is expected to be unveiled in 2026.
According to “Autocar”, after revealing the ID 2 GTI concept with front-wheel drive and 223 hp, engineers at VW’s research and development center in Braunschweig, Germany, are now working on a high-performance top-of-the-line version, which is expected to feature a maximum power of 282 hp.
In addition to the extra power, the new model is expected to include a series of mechanical and electronic improvements reminiscent of previous Clubsport versions of the Golf. Among them, a fully mechanical limited-slip differential stands out, allowing torque transfer between the front wheels.
The ID.2 GTI Clubsport is expected to follow the example of previous Golf GTI Clubsport models, which offered more power, more precise suspension adjustments, and a limited edition.
The ID 2 GTI variants will be based on the MEB Entry platform (internally known as MEB-21) and are expected to utilize the APP550 motor, which VW uses in other recently revealed or updated electric models.
