VW will present the latest evolution of the Grand California on September 7 in Düsseldorf, Germany, which will hit the market next year.
Based on the successful Crafter, the new proposal from VW Commercial Vehicles features several visual and structural improvements that enhance the comfort and livability of the Grand California. All the new functionalities of the motorhome, available in two wheelbase lengths, will be integrated into mass production this autumn.
The interior of the Grand California now stands out with the new “Atami Bamboo” décor, applied to both the tabletop and the kitchenette work surface.
Additionally, there is now a new floor covering (kitchen, dining area, and cargo area), made of more durable PVC. The kitchen faucet, now in black, has also been redesigned. Together with the new wood finish, they create an elegant contrast with the white interior, giving it a Mediterranean yacht character.
Another novelty on board the California 600 (6.0 meters in length, cross bed) and the California 680 (6.8 meters in length, longitudinal bed) is the luggage nets in the upper cabinets, which facilitate the storage of clothes and various utensils. Among the new standard equipment is a set of thermal and blackout covers custom-made for the cabin windows.
As already seen in the VW Crafter, the Grand California is equipped with the Digital Cockpit Pro featuring multimedia screens of 10.4’’ or 12.9’’, as well as a configurable digital instrument panel through the multifunction steering wheel.
Standard are the driver assistance systems such as “Front Assist” (emergency braking assistant with detection of cyclists and pedestrians), “Lane Assist” (lane departure warning), a parking assistant (front and rear), and traffic sign recognition.
As an option, “Travel Assist” has become available, which allows for assisted driving both longitudinally and laterally. This is complemented by the electronic parking brake, activated through a switch on the instrument panel.
