Tesla launched the new feature “ Actually Smart Summon ” at the end of 2024, available only in the U.S., which was initially scheduled to be released in 2022 but was postponed several times.
The “Actually Smart Summon” allows the driver to call the car to their location within a range of about 65 meters or send the vehicle to a parking spot.
However, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced this Tuesday that it has opened an investigation into approximately 2.6 million Tesla vehicles due to issues related to the “Actually Smart Summon.”
It is worth noting that Elon Musk’s brand announced in December that the new feature is safe as it can only be performed at low speeds to reduce dangers in congested areas. Additionally, Tesla reminded that the new functionality should only be used in parking lots or relatively stable environments.
This new investigation by the NHTSA comes after the U.S. regulator initiated an investigation into 2.4 million Tesla vehicles in October, equipped with the Full Self-Driving (FSD) software, following four collisions, including a fatal accident recorded in 2023.
