Charles Leclerc will start from second place in the main race of the São Paulo Grand Prix of Formula 1. The Ferrari driver was only behind Max Verstappen (Red Bull) by 0.294s before the storm that interrupted and prematurely cancelled yesterday’s final qualifying phase at Interlagos.
The Monegasque driver considers it a positive session, especially in the first two phases: ‘It was a good qualifying. Q1 was smooth, we only used one set of soft tires and did a solid lap with a car that felt great, after making some tuning changes after FP1. In Q2, we practically only did one lap.’
As for Q3, Leclerc commented on the difficulties imposed by the weather conditions: ‘Then came a strange experience. In Q3, the wind change was really sudden, there was no grip from the second sector. I didn’t know what to expect in terms of balance when entering a corner, but I kept everything in order, so second place is not bad considering that.’
