After three seasons, the format of the Grand Prix with Sprint race in Formula 1 will be readjusted again next season – as decided by the F1 Commission.
The current format has a free practice on Friday morning, followed by qualifying after which the cars are under closed park conditions. Saturday has the Sprint Shootout (qualifying for the Sprint race) and the Sprint race, while Sunday is reserved for the main race as tradition dictates.
These arrangements give teams only 60 minutes of free work before they can hardly make any changes to their cars.
From now on, the activities related to the Sprint race will be separated from the rest of the GP, with the F1 Commission talking about further streamlining the format. For now, no additional details have been disclosed, with a final proposal to be presented at the first meeting of next year. In the coming weeks, it will be known which rounds will have Sprint races in 2024.
