Lexus has unveiled the updated RZ, which offers more technology with a comprehensive set of updates. Launched in 2023 as the first model from the Japanese brand built on a dedicated global architecture platform for 100% electric vehicles, the RZ provided a new driving and design experience enhanced by electrification technology. In 2024, the range was expanded with the introduction of a front-wheel-drive model, responding to the demand for the model.
Now, Lexus has decided to enhance the RZ with a set of technical innovations led by the first application of Lexus’s steer-by-wire system, meaning there is no mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the steering axis. Instead, an electrical connection sends the movements of the joystick-like steering wheel to the wheels, promising a new driving experience with smoother, easier, and more intuitive steering.
The new model range includes the well-known RZ 350e, which is equipped with a single electric motor on the front axle producing 224 hp and 269 Nm of maximum torque. The electric motor is powered by a new 77 kWh lithium-ion battery, common to all versions, which boasts a range of up to 575 km for the RZ 350e.

Additionally, the RZ will have two versions more focused on performance. The first is the RZ 500e, equipped with two electric motors that deliver a combined power of 375 hp, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. This version promises a range of up to 500 km.
The top-of-the-line version is the RZ 550e F Sport, which produces 402 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds. Its range is 450 km.
Exclusive to the F Sport version is the “Interactive Manual Drive” with paddle shifters to simulate gear changes. For this, the driver benefits from engine sounds with a rev limiter and some visual cues indicating when to “shift gears” in a simulated 8-speed automatic transmission.

Regarding battery charging, Lexus announced that charging performance has also been improved, benefiting from the adoption of a new 22 kW AC onboard charger, instead of the previous standard 6.6 kW, anticipating a broader public infrastructure that supports faster charging.

The charging at low temperatures has also been improved with a new battery pre-conditioning function. This optimizes the battery temperature before charging begins, eliminating delays. As a result, Lexus promises that the charging time should be reduced by about 30 minutes.
Lexus has announced that the renewed RZ will hit the European market next fall.
