Carlos Sainz was the best Ferrari driver in the United States Grand Prix of Formula 1. With teammate Charles Leclerc’s strategy not working, car #55 overtook the Monegasque and finished in fourth place in Austin… before moving up to third. Leclerc was ultimately disqualified, as well as Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) – who finished ahead of Sainz, was disqualified, and promoted him to third.
The Spaniard explained that this was the best possible result: ‘I think it was the best we could do. The pace was reasonable and solid throughout the race, and we even closed the gap to the car in third place in the last few laps. Unfortunately, the opponents ahead were faster and we couldn’t catch them.’
With the American round behind them, Sainz now sets his sights on the Mexico City Grand Prix: ‘We are not where we want to be, and we knew it was going to be a tough race, but now we need to quickly change our focus to Mexico and prepare for next week.’
