After setting records for the fastest lap on the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany, Laguna Seca in California, USA, and the Shanghai International Circuit in China, the Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package has now achieved two new records at the Road Atlanta circuit in Georgia (USA) and the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
With a time of 1:27.1 minutes, professional driver Patrick Long claimed the title of fastest production electric vehicle at the Road Atlanta circuit. The time achieved improved upon the previous record set by the Taycan Turbo S in 2020 by more than six seconds.
The record lap at the Yas Marina Circuit was completed at night due to extremely high daytime temperatures. GT driver and racing school instructor from the United Arab Emirates, Ramez Azzam, completed a lap of the renowned circuit in 2:07.2 minutes, just 1.1 seconds below the historic lap record for touring cars.
Remember that with the addition of the Taycan Turbo GT and Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package, in the spring of 2024, Porsche expanded the range of 100% electric sports sedans. In these vehicles, a more powerful inverter that uses silicon carbide as a semiconductor material is employed on the rear axle. Both variants can achieve small power ‘boosts’, allowing them to reach over 1100 hp.
Furthermore, Porsche reduced the weight of the Taycan Turbo GT by up to 75 kg compared to the Taycan Turbo, using various carbon elements and omitting the rear seats for an even better power-to-weight ratio.
The Porsche Active Ride suspension with specific GT tuning is standard on both models. In dynamic driving situations, the suspension ensures better road connection thanks to a balanced load distribution on the wheels.
