Porsche has announced that the new 911 GT3 has achieved a new record for the fastest lap time for manual transmission models at the Nürburgring circuit in Germany.
The Porsche ambassador driver, Jorg Bergmeister, managed to complete a lap of the German circuit in 6:56.294 minutes, which is about 3.6 seconds faster than its predecessor equipped with a PDK transmission.

“The new 911 GT3 inspires even more confidence at the limit than the previous model. I was able to be faster in almost every corner”, said Bergmeister in a statement. “We learned a lot from the 911 GT3 RS, especially with the chassis. The new 911 GT3 is even more stable. And thanks to an 8% shorter gear ratio, we have more traction on the rear axle when accelerating with the same engine power. Although I could have been a few seconds faster with the seven-speed PDK automatic transmission, I had to push harder on the lap with the six-speed manual gearbox, which made the experience even more enjoyable.”.
The 911 GT3 that set the new Nürburgring record was equipped with the optional Weissach package, which includes a weight reduction provided by various carbon fiber components, as well as being fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires.
