The new Peugeot 208 arrives in Portugal in December and the French brand has announced the opening of orders and prices for one of the most important models of the new generation for the lion brand, which features a reinvented design, new engines including a 100% electric E-208 version available now in the GT variant, with a range of 410 km.
In terms of design, the new Peugeot 208 features a completely redesigned front, integrating the 208 into the brand’s new design era, with the new logo in the center of a grille that presents an evolutionary pattern in the body color. Merging with the bumper, the design reflects the electrification of the range and gives the new E-208 a greater balance.
The grille and body are no longer compartmentalized, forming a whole, increasing visual robustness. Also noteworthy is the integration of the new Peugeot lighting signature, introduced for the first time on the 9X8 Hypercar, in the new 508 and 508 SW, and more recently in the new 2008. The concept features three long vertical luminous claws, a distinctive element of this signature, integrated into the glossy black inserts of the bumper.
In terms of engines, the new 208 is based on the 1.2 PureTech gasoline engines with two power levels, 75 hp and 100 hp, to which are added the new hybrid engines with 100 and 136 hp, and the two electric versions: the E-208 with a combined power of 156 hp and a 51 kWh battery, for a combined cycle range of 410 km and 566 km in urban cycle (WLTP values), and which announces a maximum speed limited to 150 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.2 seconds, promising a WLTP Urban cycle consumption of 10.2 kW/h per 100 km.
This engine is complemented by the E-208 136 hp with a 50 kWh battery, which has a combined cycle range of 362 km and 498 km in urban cycle, and announces a maximum speed limited to 150 km/h, as well as an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.0 seconds, consuming 11.2 kW/h per 100 km in WLTP Urban cycle.
Regarding charging, there are two types of chargers available: as standard, a single-phase 7.4 kW charger and, optionally, a three-phase 11 kW charger.
The estimated recharge times from 20% to 80% are less than 30 minutes from a fast charger (100 kW), 4 hours and 40 minutes from a Wallbox (7.4 kW), and 10 hours and 30 minutes from a reinforced socket (3.2 kW).
The range also includes a Special Edition launch called Style in the 136 hp E-208, which will be available in the first three months of commercialization.
The hybrid versions will only arrive on the market in the first quarter of 2024. The new 208 proposes two HYBRID 48V engines, composed of a 100 hp or 136 hp PureTech gasoline engine, associated with a 6-speed electrified dual-clutch e-DCS6 gearbox, which integrates an electric motor.
Benefiting from a battery that recharges during driving, this technology offers additional torque at low speeds and up to 15% lower fuel consumption.
The gasoline versions feature the well-known 3-cylinder, 1.2-liter engine in two variants, PureTech 75, associated with a 5-speed manual gearbox, and PureTech 100, equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The range of the new 208 is available in the three traditional equipment levels; Active Allure and GT, and as for prices, Peugeot has already announced that they start at €20 510 for the entry-level thermal engine version, while the Hybrid variants start at €24 360. On the other hand, the 100% electric E-208 starts at €35 360.
