Novo Ioniq 5 N tem três opções de som do motor
As electric cars continue to become more popular, the absence of internal combustion engines has given rise to a challenge and an opportunity: the need for a sound design specifically tailored for electric vehicles. Recognizing this fact, car manufacturers have invested in sound design to create a sound for electric cars that not only meets safety regulations, but also enhances the overall driving experience. The sound produced by the motor of electric cars is directly related to the speed generated by their single gear transmissions. Compared to their gasoline counterparts, the noise of electric car engines is characterized by a more uniform tone. In the design of electric car sound, engineers and experts create a variety of artificial sounds that go beyond the hum of propulsion. One aspect is the creation of alerts and warnings designed to increase safety in public spaces. At low speeds, electric cars are virtually silent, leading to the need for discreet yet attention-grabbing sounds to alert pedestrians and cyclists of their presence. These warning sounds serve as a safeguard in environments where background noise may mask the approach of a silent electric car.In this sense, car manufacturers are developing technologies capable of provoking deep emotions, making electric cars not only a sustainable means of transportation, but also an engaging and stimulating experience.
The Hyundai Motor is doing this in the brand new Ioniq 5 with the innovative N Active Sound +. The technology provides a more captivating sound experience to enhance decision-making and driving fun. “At the Sound Research Lab, we dive into the world of car sound design, using cutting-edge technologies such as driving simulators and virtual reality to develop the latest innovations”, stated Dong Chul Park from Hyundai’s Sound Research Lab in South Korea. “We are deeply motivated to provide a satisfying auditory experience to drivers worldwide.”

The functionality of the N Active Sound+ is based on providing intuitive auditory feedback that directly corresponds to the engine torque output. The Ioniq 5 N uses an electric car sound emitter, composed of eight internal speakers and two external ones, offering three distinct sound themes. The “Ignition” theme simulates the sound of the N models’ 2.0T engines, while the “Evolution” theme ensures a characteristic high-performance sound inspired by the RN22e.

Meanwhile, the “Supersonic” theme is a unique concept inspired by twin-engine jet fighter planes, with variable volume during turns. Additionally, customers have the option to customize the sound experience in the car according to their preferences. They can personalize it by activating or deactivating the output of the external speakers and various sound effects.
