Hyundai N is developing a high-performance version of the Tucson, which will hit the market with a hybrid engine and not 100% electric.
The confirmation was made by the head of the N division, Joon Park, to “Auto Express,” who acknowledged that Hyundai N wants to go beyond fully electric models like the Ioniq 5 N and the Ioniq 6 N. “We are not limited to electric vehicles”, said Park. “We will also go beyond combustion engine models; this is not the end of our journey.”
It seems that the new Tucson N will adopt a 1.6-liter gasoline engine, combined with a new electric motor for a power output of around 300 hp.
In this regard, the head of Hyundai N did not hide that the brand’s future hybrids will be different. “One thing I can say is that if we have hybrid systems, the characteristics of our systems will be different. We have two different strategies for our hybrid systems: one for efficiency and another for neutral efficiency. If we have a hybrid system in our N models, the strategy will be different: to have more power intensely”.
Joon Park also hinted that beyond the Tucson, there may be room to advance with other smaller N hybrid models, such as the Kauai, the i20, and the i30. “If we can make a smaller model with a lighter battery, then it can be better”, said Park.
