Renault revolutionized the automotive world by launching the Twingo in 1992, and it is already known that the new generation of the charismatic model from the French brand will hit the market in 2026.

The new Renault Twingo will be an electric car, developed jointly by the French company and Chinese partners. According to the French portal “L’Argus”, the finalization of the new generation of the Twingo will take place in France, and the prototype of the new electric model was recently “spotted” near Renault’s testing center in Aubevoye.

With an expressive look, the Twingo E-Tech prototype features a front that recalls the first generation of the small model, with round headlights that stand out from the bodywork, giving it an original, modern, and technological appearance.

Additionally, the front is marked by small openings on the hood, not to cool the engine, but to pay tribute to the car’s legacy. In profile, the highlight is the round door handles, which are inherited from the 1992 model, now with a round edge that lights up.

According to the same source, the new electric Twingo is technically based on a special version of the AmpR Small platform, also used by the 100% electric Renault R5 and R4. The new Twingo is expected to use an LFP battery from the Chinese company CATL, with a storage capacity of approximately 30 kWh, allowing for a range of up to 300 kilometers, according to the WLTP cycle.

According to “L’Argus,” the design of the new Twingo is being developed in France, while the development and technical coordination take place in China, at Ampere, a subsidiary of Renault. With the aim of offering an affordable entry price, the Twingo will have a production cost 50% lower than that of a new C-segment SUV, due to a reduction in materials and a software-based platform that will require the use of fewer parts.

The production of the new generation of the electric Twingo will begin in the fall of 2025 at the French brand’s factory in Novo Mesto, Slovenia.
