Raul Fernandez made his debut in MotoGP in 2022, receiving a lot of attention and interest from Yamaha and KTM. However, his performance in the last two seasons has been disappointing. Nevertheless, there are signs that things may change for the better in the upcoming 2024 season. Fernandez had an exceptional debut season in Moto2, narrowly missing out on the championship title. But when he moved up to MotoGP with the Tech3 team from KTM, both he and his teammate Gardner struggled due to the difficult bike and lack of support from the manufacturer. Fernandez had a string of poor results and only scored 14 points throughout the season. Despite being part of the KTM academy system, he decided to switch teams and joined RNF Racing, riding an Aprilia bike. It took some time for Fernandez to adapt to the new bike, but he showed improvement towards the end of the season. Unfortunately, RNF Racing faced financial difficulties and eventually went bankrupt. Fernandez then joined Trackhouse, an American team, and impressed everyone with his performance on the 2023 specification Aprilia. However, his progress was halted when he suffered a serious accident during testing, resulting in fractures. Despite the setback, Fernandez managed to finish the test in fifth place, raising expectations for the next season. He remains optimistic and determined to recover in time for the first race. Fernandez acknowledges the challenges he faces but is focused on preparing for a successful season. This is a crucial year for Fernandez to prove himself and establish his place in MotoGP. He needs to deliver consistent results and show significant improvement compared to his previous seasons. While some good performances would secure his future with Trackhouse, his ultimate goal is to become a MotoGP star. The tests have shown his potential, but he needs to demonstrate his abilities in real races to attract the attention of factories and secure his reputation in the sport.
