Mazda has announced the opening of orders for the new EZ-6, but only for the Chinese market, where it is offered in a 100% electric variant and another hybrid variant with an extended range (EREV).
Measuring 4.92 meters in length, 1.89m in width, 1.48m in height, and with a wheelbase of 2.89m, the EZ-6 is a sedan that in its fully electric version is equipped with an electric motor installed on the rear axle, capable of delivering 258 hp of power. The electric motor is powered by a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, available in two capacity levels of 56.1 kWh or 68.8 kWh, which allows for a range of 480 km or 600 km, respectively.
The variant with the extended range features a 1.5-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor with 218 hp, which, depending on the battery, has an electric range of 130 km or 200 km. With the combustion engine, the total range of this version of the EZ-6 rises to about 1300 km.
Developed in China by the joint venture between the Japanese manufacturer and the Chinese company Changan, with the collaboration of engineers from Mazda’s European Research and Development center, the EZ-6 boasts a design that stands out with a Mazda-style grille and headlights with a split structure.
In profile, the new EZ-6 presents a sporty stance with a coupé-like appearance. The rear ends with an active spoiler that rises whenever necessary to increase downforce on the rear axle. Additionally, there is a highlight on the rear light signature, marked by a horizontal light bar that connects the two taillights and spans the entire trunk lid.
The cabin is equipped with good finishes, which is a hallmark of Mazda. The enormous central screen of the infotainment system measures 14.6 inches, and the model is also equipped with a 50-inch augmented reality head-up display.
The EZ-6 is also equipped with a Sony audio system featuring 14 speakers, ambient lighting with 64 colors, zero-gravity front seats that can recline to an almost flat position, and a panoramic roof.
For now, the new EZ-6 will be available in the Chinese market; however, Mazda is considering launching the model in the European market later.
