The Future of the Italian Grand Prix in Jeopardy: Could Monza Be Axed from the F1 Calendar?

In a shocking development, the Italian Grand Prix—one of Formula 1’s most iconic and beloved races—faces an uncertain future despite a contract running through 2031.

🚨 Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has hinted that Monza and possibly even Imola could be removed from the calendar due to political turmoil within the Automobile Club d’Italia (ACI).

With the Temple of Speed recently undergoing renovations and a record 337,000 fans attending last year’s race, the prospect of losing Italy’s historic Grand Prix is nothing short of devastating.

Why is Monza at Risk? The ACI Leadership Battle Explained

At the heart of the controversy is a looming leadership change at the ACI, which could see Angelo Sticchi Damiani forced out of his role as president due to an “emergency decree” limiting leadership terms.

📢 What this means for Monza:
🔹 The ACI plays a crucial role in securing and maintaining the Italian GP’s place on the calendar.
🔹 Domenicali has raised concerns, warning that a shake-up could put Monza’s contract in jeopardy.
🔹 If Damiani is removed, Formula 1 could pull out altogether, axing both Monza and potentially Imola.

This is a major red flag for fans and Tifosi who cherish Ferrari’s home race.

Losing Monza: A Blow to Formula 1’s Legacy

If the Italian Grand Prix disappears from the F1 calendar, the sport would lose:

🏁 A historic venue – Monza has hosted F1 since 1950, making it one of the sport’s most legendary circuits.
🏁 High-speed spectacle – The circuit’s long straights and low-drag setups push cars to 350 km/h (217 mph), creating breathtaking racing.
🏁 Unforgettable underdog moments – Who can forget:

  • Vettel’s first F1 win in 2008 with Toro Rosso
  • Pierre Gasly’s fairytale victory in 2020
  • Daniel Ricciardo’s McLaren triumph in 2021

🏁 The Tifosi takeover – There is no greater celebration in motorsport than when Ferrari wins at Monza, with thousands of passionate fans flooding the track, waving flags, and singing the Italian national anthem.

What Happens Next? Will Monza Be Saved?

🔹 The “emergency decree” limiting ACI leadership terms has yet to be approved.
🔹 If Damiani is removed, F1 may follow through on its threat to axe the race.
🔹 Negotiations between F1, the Italian government, and ACI leadership will be crucial in determining Monza’s fate.

The Verdict: Formula 1 Cannot Afford to Lose Monza

🚨 Axing the Italian Grand Prix would be one of the biggest mistakes in F1 history.

💬 Domenicali must find a way to secure Monza’s future, regardless of political shakeups at the ACI.

💬 Fans and Ferrari deserve to see their beloved Tifosi moment at Monza for years to come.

But will F1 listen?

If Monza disappears, it won’t just be Italy that loses—it’ll be the entire sport.
