“We are very proud to call the Sunderland factory home to the Qashqai. Having the number one team behind the number one crossover is a winning formula, and we can’t wait to see how much our customers appreciate the new design and additional technology,” highlighted Adam Pennick, vice president of production in the UK for Nissan.
It is worth noting that the Japanese brand recently carried out an update of the Sunderland factory that required an investment of around €35 million, in addition to Nissan’s total investment in the UK of over €7 billion.
Conceived, designed, and produced in the UK, the first Qashqai was produced in Sunderland at the end of 2006, before its launch in 2007. Its instant popularity led to record production levels in Sunderland, with the factory recording the highest annual volumes in the history of the UK automotive industry, making the Qashqai the best-selling car built in the UK.
