Ford Unleashes the 2025 Ranger PHEV in Europe: A Hybrid Powerhouse with Unmatched Torque

Ford has finally pulled the curtain back on the much-anticipated 2025 Ranger Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) at the IAA Transportation event in Germany, showcasing a hybrid pickup that’s set to redefine the mid-size truck market. The electrified Ranger, revealed in the exclusive Stormtrak launch edition, is packed with innovations, monstrous torque, and eco-friendly performance, but there’s still no confirmation on its U.S. debut.

Turbo Power Meets Hybrid Efficiency

Under the hood, the Ranger PHEV packs a turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine paired with a 75-kW electric motor, together producing a formidable 275 horsepower and an industry-leading 509 lb-ft of torque. This powertrain delivers more torque than any other Ranger, even surpassing the performance-focused Ranger Raptor in Europe, which tops out at 362 lb-ft. In comparison, the Raptor’s U.S. version delivers 430 lb-ft, but the PHEV comfortably outmuscles both variants.

For the adventurous, Ford offers a software tune in the U.S. that boosts the Raptor’s torque to a staggering 536 lb-ft, but that’s still an optional extra, leaving the PHEV with the title for the most torque straight off the factory floor.

Electric Range and Charging

The Ranger PHEV’s 11.8-kWh lithium-ion battery pack takes less than four hours to fully charge, giving drivers a respectable 28 miles of electric-only range on the WLTP cycle. While not groundbreaking, this feature provides excellent utility for short trips or light work without consuming fuel.

More than just a hybrid, the PHEV also brings practicality with its Pro Power Onboard system, which offers a 2.3-kW standard outlet to power tools or appliances directly from the truck. For those needing more juice, an optional 6.9-kW system with dual 3.45-kW outlets is available.

A Workhorse with Premium Features

Despite its electrified credentials, the Ranger PHEV doesn’t skimp on its rugged capabilities. The truck maintains an impressive 7,716-pound towing capacity and a payload capacity of 2,204 pounds, ensuring it’s just as ready for the job site as its gasoline and diesel-powered counterparts.

The Stormtrak launch edition stands out with premium touches like matrix LED headlights, a 360-degree camera, a 10-speaker B&O sound system, and the Pro Trailer Backup Assist feature for seamless trailer maneuvering. With 18-inch wheels, fender vents, and a rack system, the PHEV combines toughness with modern tech. Exclusive colors such as Chill Grey and Agate Black, along with a distinctive honeycomb grille, complete the package.

The U.S. Market in Waiting

Despite the excitement around its European debut, there’s no word yet on whether Ford will bring the Ranger PHEV to the United States. Given the rising demand for hybrid and electric trucks in North America, it seems like only a matter of time before Ford taps into this growing market. For now, the first European deliveries are expected in spring 2025, with production kicking off in South Africa.

The 2025 Ford Ranger PHEV is shaping up to be a trailblazer in the hybrid truck segment, blending power, efficiency, and capability in one electrified package. Whether for work or play, this truck looks ready to take on all comers.
