Ford bid farewell to the legendary Escort in the early 2000s to make way for the Focus, but now with the “blessing” of the American brand, the British company Boreham Motorworks has decided to bring back the high-performance Escort, the Mk1 RS.
The new Escort will make its public debut next summer, ahead of production starting in the third quarter of 2025, and it is already known that only 150 units will be built, with each one sold exclusively online, similar to the Ford GT and the new Mustang GTD.
Customers can choose between two characterful engine options, each embodying the spirit of the Ford RS legacy while offering modern performance.
The first engine option, available as standard, is the iconic Twin Cam, which has been enhanced to deliver 182 hp. This engine is paired with a “Ford bullet” synchronized 4-speed manual transmission, paying homage to the Boreham-built Escort Mk1 Twin Cam, combining its history with precise and responsive performance for today’s roads.
For those looking for an option that combines a modern interpretation with classic Ford DNA, the Escort is available with a brand new 4-cylinder engine, offered in a 2.1-liter version that delivers a healthy 296 hp at 10,000 rpm and sends power to the road through a five-speed manual transmission.
Both engines feature fuel injection, with the more powerful version also including electronic throttle control. Just like in the old days, there are no control devices, as it lacks anti-lock brakes, power steering, traction control, and brake assist. However, it does have disc brakes on all four wheels. The 15-inch, four-spoke wheels fit well into the prominent steel wheel arches, just like the rest of the bodywork. Forged magnesium wheels are optional.
The interior features prominent bucket seats and a complete safety cage for increased rigidity. Boreham Motorworks has also equipped the cabin with Alcantara and leather, as well as an optional four-point seatbelt and a dedicated carbon section in the rear for helmet storage. Additionally, this Escort comes with air conditioning, a small infotainment system, anodized gauges, and new switches.
If you intend to purchase one of the 150 units of these Ford Escorts from Boreham Motorworks, be prepared to spend around €360,000. Also, note that Boreham has announced plans to “revive” the powerful Ford RS200 that competed in Group B of the World Rally Championship, but now in a version adapted for any public road.
