Volvo will unveil the new ES90, the Swedish brand’s first electric sedan, on March 5th, and it is already known that the new model will be the most powerful ever created by Volvo in terms of central computing capability.
The new ES90 promises to elevate Volvo’s models to a new level, particularly in terms of technology, as the new 100% electric sedan is the first Volvo vehicle to be equipped with a dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin configuration, making it the most powerful car ever from Volvo in terms of central computing capability. This allows for an even higher standard of safety and overall performance through the use of data, software, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The DRIVE AGX Orin is NVIDIA’s central computer for smart vehicles, capable of coordinating multiple systems and essential processes at ultra-fast speeds.
Your high level of computational power – around 508 trillion operations per second (also known as TOPS) – manages functionalities such as next-generation active security features based on AI, the car’s sensors, and battery efficiency.
Volvo ensures that the central computer of the ES90 powered by NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin provides up to eight times the improvement in AI computing performance compared to the DRIVE AGX Xavier, allowing for a gradual increase in the size of the deep learning and neural network model from 40 million to 200 million parameters. This will happen over time as more data is collected and the model continues to be developed, with the main goal of enhancing the customer experience and – more importantly – safety levels.
Additionally, the ES90 will be the second model from Volvo, after the EX90, to utilize the Superset technology suite. The use of this system allows for improvements in safety, technology, and overall performance throughout the lifecycle of the ES90.

“With the Superset technology suite, it is possible to make these improvements more efficiently and implement them even more quickly through remote updates across all models based on Superset”, Volvo stated in a release.
The ES90 also features Safe Space technology, which includes a LiDAR, five radars, seven cameras, and twelve ultrasonic sensors, as well as an advanced driver understanding system inside the vehicle.
