We already knew that BMW’s new compact sports car, the M2 CS, which has not yet hit the market, has already achieved a record for the fastest lap on the Nürburgring circuit in Germany. However, the German brand has now achieved a new record, this time with a model that has room for shopping and a strong appetite to showcase its dynamic capability.
This is the M3 CS Touring, which completed a lap of the ‘Green Hell’ in 7:29.490 minutes, thus becoming the fastest car to complete a lap of the German circuit.
The achievement of the M3 CS Touring is even more remarkable considering that it was 5.5 seconds faster than the normal M3 Touring, which held the previous record since 2022. Furthermore, compared to other BMW models with the ‘M’ badge, the M3 CS Touring is only slightly slower compared to the M3 CS sedan, which completed a lap of the Nürburgring in 7:28.760 minutes, although it cannot match the lap times of the lighter M4 CS coupe with 7:21.989 minutes, having fallen short of the radical M4 CSL which completed a lap of the German circuit in 7:18.137 minutes.
The record for the M3 CS Touring was achieved in April, but only now revealed, with the driver Jörg Weidinger, a development engineer at BMW M, at the wheel, ultimately becoming the first driver to break the 7:30 minute barrier with a station wagon on the Nürburgring circuit.
It should be noted that the BMW M3 CS Touring was unveiled at the beginning of the year and is a station wagon with an enhanced chassis and aerodynamics, equipped with a 3.0-liter, inline six-cylinder twin-turbo engine that produces 550 hp, which is transmitted to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission and the M xDrive system. BMW claims that the M3 CS Touring accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 300 km/h.
