The Portuguese Automobile Association (ACAP) revealed this Monday that car registrations in Portugal increased by 7.8% in the first six months of 2024, with 137,197 new vehicles being put into circulation between January and June.
According to the data released by ACAP, 24,561 vehicles were registered in Portugal in June, which is 4.7% less than in the same month of 2023, with ACAP warning that “June 2024 had two fewer working days than June 2023, which may have influenced the number of registered vehicles”.
By categories, in June, 20,193 new passenger cars were registered in Portugal, representing a decrease of 8.4% compared to the same month of the previous year.
In the first six months of 2024, registrations of passenger cars totaled 116,417 units, resulting in a positive variation of 5.7% compared to the same period in 2023.
As for the light commercial vehicle market, there was a positive growth of 10.1% in June compared to the same month of the previous year, with 3,492 registered units.
In cumulative terms, the market reached 16,864 units in the first semester, representing a growth of 22.9% compared to the same period of the previous year.
As for the heavy vehicle market, which includes passenger and goods types, there was an increase of 56.4% in June compared to the same month of 2023, with 876 vehicles of this category being sold.
In this way, from January to June 2024, the registrations of this category totaled 3914 units, which represented an increase of 14.7% compared to the same period of 2023.
