The All-New Volkswagen Tiguan: What to Expect From Its Big Los Angeles Reveal

After nearly a decade of minimal updates, the Volkswagen Tiguan is finally getting a major overhaul. The third-generation model will make its long-awaited debut next week at the 2024 Los Angeles Auto Show, promising to redefine one of VW’s most popular SUVs for the US market.

Volkswagen has released a tantalizing teaser image ahead of the reveal, showcasing the SUV’s redesigned taillight—a dramatic departure from the current Tiguan. With its bold new look and updated features, this Tiguan aims to reclaim its place in the competitive compact SUV market.

“A Modern Design Inspired by VW’s Latest Lineup”

The teaser image hints at a completely refreshed design language. The Tiguan’s taillight now features sleek new graphics, reminiscent of Volkswagen’s recent models, such as the ID.4, Jetta, and Taos. While the single photo doesn’t give away much, the bold styling suggests the Tiguan is aligning with VW’s modern aesthetic.

For a broader sense of the new Tiguan’s design, the European Tayron, which debuted earlier this year, offers some clues. However, Volkswagen has confirmed that the US Tiguan will feature unique sheet metal, powertrain options, and equipment tailored for American buyers.

“Built on VW’s MQB Evo Platform”

The new Tiguan is built on Volkswagen’s MQB Evo platform, a versatile architecture that underpins several of VW’s latest models. This platform upgrade is expected to enhance the SUV’s handling, safety features, and overall driving dynamics.

“What’s Under the Hood?”

Volkswagen has been tight-lipped about the Tiguan’s powertrain options. While the European Tayron offers a range of engines, including diesel and hybrid variants, the US Tiguan’s lineup remains a mystery. Here’s what we might expect:

  • A base four-cylinder engine producing around 200 horsepower.
  • The potential introduction of a hybrid model, aligning with the growing demand for electrified vehicles.

VW is likely to focus on delivering powertrains that combine efficiency with performance, though the specifics won’t be revealed until the official debut.

“When and Where to Watch the Reveal”

The new Tiguan will make its debut on November 20 at 8:00 PM ET, just ahead of the 2024 Los Angeles Auto Show. This global unveiling will set the stage for one of the year’s most anticipated compact SUV launches.

“Why the New Tiguan Matters”

The Tiguan has been a mainstay in Volkswagen’s US lineup since 2007. While the second-generation model introduced in 2016 brought modest updates, the SUV has faced stiff competition from rivals like the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Mazda CX-50. The third-generation Tiguan is Volkswagen’s opportunity to reinvigorate its standing in this crowded segment with cutting-edge design, advanced features, and competitive performance.
