Tesla announced that it will suspend a large part of production at the “gigafactory” in Gruenheide, near Berlin, Germany, between January 29 and February 11, due to component shortages.
In a statement, the American electric vehicle brand announced that the decision comes as a result of changes in maritime routes due to attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea.
“The armed conflicts in the Red Sea and the associated changes in transportation routes between Europe and Asia via the Cape of Good Hope are impacting production in Gruenheide,” Tesla stated.
“The considerably longer transportation time is creating supply chain disruptions,” the statement notes.
It should be noted that Tesla’s German factory, inaugurated in March 2022, produces the Model Y.
