Tesla has announced the start of production of the revamped Model Y at its Shanghai factory, a moment celebrated by the factory employees and revealed on Chinese social media.
The images show that the first Model Y vehicles produced feature a body in the new Glacier Blue color.
The revamped Model Y showcases a redesigned front, with split headlights and a new LED strip that spans the entire width of the front, reminiscent of the Cybercab. Additionally, the bumpers have been redesigned, and the hood no longer incorporates the Tesla emblem.
The revamped Model Y will initially be available in two versions, one with all-wheel drive, featuring two electric motors powered by a 78.4 kWh NMC battery, providing a combined power of 514 hp and an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds.
Furthermore, the revamped Model Y is also available in a variant with a single electric motor installed on the rear axle. This motor is powered by a 62.5 kWh LFP battery produced by CATL, which promises a range of up to 593 km on the generous Chinese CLTC cycle.
It is worth noting that Tesla’s factory in Shanghai is the largest of all the company’s production units. In 2024, sales of Elon Musk’s brand vehicles in China reached 916,600 units, including units produced for export.
