Elon Musk confirmed this week, in a video conference about the company’s results, that Tesla’s “next-generation and low-cost” electric model is in an advanced stage of its development, confessing to being “optimistic” that it will reach the market in the second half of 2025. The executive also promised “a revolutionary production system” for the vehicle, which he describes as much more advanced than any other in the world by a “significant margin”.
According to Reuters, the promised “$25,000 Tesla” would be a small crossover codenamed Redwood (the Model 2 designation is not confirmed), with Tesla already requesting quotes from its suppliers, expecting a production volume of about 10,000 vehicles per week.
According to Musk, the company’s new manufacturing technique will be “very difficult to copy” because “it would have to copy the machine that makes the machine that makes the machine… to start production”.
