Despite the decline in sales in many markets in Europe, Tesla seems willing to sell its electric truck Semi in Europe.
The heavy vehicle from the brand led by Elon Musk was revealed in 2017 and was initially scheduled to enter production two years later. However, the American brand of 100% electric vehicles postponed the start of production several times and only in 2022 presented the production version of the Semi.
The Class 8 electric truck remains a rarity in the U.S., with only a few dozen units in the hands of a small number of customers and a few more in Tesla’s internal fleet.
Earlier this year, Tesla announced that production of the Tesla Semi will ramp up significantly at the end of the year at Gigafactory Nevada in the U.S., aiming to reach a capacity of 50,000 units per year.
However, according to “Electrek”, Tesla has hired Usuf Schermo to lead the business development of the Tesla Semi in Europe, which suggests that Elon Musk’s brand is interested in bringing the electric truck to Europe. Usuf Schermo announced on his “LinkedIn” that he has joined Tesla as “Head of Business Development EMEA for Tesla Semi.”
Despite this, with the production of the electric truck starting in the U.S. only at the end of the year, it is unlikely that Tesla will have a homologated version of the Semi for Europe before the end of 2026.
It should be noted that Tesla has already announced plans to build the Semi in Europe, at the Gigafactory Berlin, which may now become a reality in the near future.
