Tell me how you lead… this study tells me who you are!

Diz-me como guias… este estudo diz-te como és!

Easy! The way we drive and our behavior on the road says a lot about each person’s personality. But the British from Select Car Leasing go further and argue that just the way you position your hands on the steering wheel allows you to know some traits of your nature.

The rules dictate that, taking the clock hands as a reference, the correct driving position requires gripping the steering wheel at the points corresponding to 10:10, with the arms almost bent at 90 degrees. In theory, this is the positioning that ensures broader arm movements, to maneuver without losing control in all driving situations, including possible skids or when it is necessary to avoid an obstacle.

In practice, each driver adopts the most comfortable and natural driving position for themselves, even if incorrectly…

“Often, your driving position reflects your state of mind and personality”, explains Lohani Noor, psychotherapist responsible for the vehicle buying and selling portal in the United Kingdom.

“If you are in a hurry or stressed, it is natural to drive with both hands on the steering wheel and raised shoulders. It is also the pattern of the antisocial type. If you are a more relaxed person, you are likely to drive with only one hand supported in the center of the steering wheel”, he exemplifies.

The study organizes drivers into five main categories of drivers, according to the (wrong!) way they hold the steering wheel:

– The neat one: learned in school to drive with hands at “ten to two” (or 10:10) and no one will convince them otherwise. Organized, compliant, and reserved, even in relation to the road.

– The minimalist: guides the car with the right hand resting on the lower rim of the steering wheel. They expend the minimum contact and effort necessary to keep the vehicle on the road. They are also someone reserved and discreet, but they don’t take life so seriously and have difficulty following rules. They value friendship very much, but the comrades they take for life can be counted on the fingers of the only hand they use to drive.

Attention, if you grip the lower rim of the steering wheel with both hands, you no longer have anything to do with the minimalist. According to this study, you are a natural leader, not discreet at all, and inspire confidence.

– The cool type: only uses one hand on the upper rim (which is dangerous, let it be emphasized!). It is the face of relaxation, not interested in commitments, but when faced with responsibilities and challenges, it always shows itself positive and optimistic.

– The adventurer: drives with a light touch on the center of the steering wheel, and right there you can tell that this is someone who lives without fear of taking risks, without any problem with taking risks, including in relationships. It is the type of person who dives headfirst and their free spirit inspires friends and is admired by everyone.
