Team Penske’s Qualifying Disaster: President Reveals Shocking Mistake Behind Exclusion

Team Penske’s Qualifying Blunder Unveiled by President Tim Cindric

In a shocking turn of events during the Indianapolis 500 qualifying, Team Penske faced a major setback when two of their drivers, Josef Newgarden and Will Power, were abruptly pulled out of the line, depriving them of the chance to complete their qualifying runs. The reason behind this unexpected twist? The rear attenuators on both cars were found to be in non-compliance with the regulations, rendering their attempts futile.

Tim Cindric, the President of Team Penske’s IndyCar division, wasted no time in disclosing the details of the blunder to FOX Sports, taking the narrative into his own hands. Cindric elaborated, “There’s a seam on the attenuator. We filled that seam on evidently some of attenuators. I think it’s an arbitrary thing. Once I knew the #2 and #12 cars were the same, no need to put our cars at risk.”

The saga continued as Cindric revealed, “Essentially the #12 car had actually passed inspection. As the #2 car went through inspection, it was pointed out that the officials didn’t like the blending on the attenuator.” The revelation led to the decision to withdraw the #12 car from the qualifying round as well, leaving the team grappling with the repercussions of their oversight.

IndyCar’s technical director, Kevin Blanch, echoed the sentiments, confirming the violation that led to the disqualification of the Team Penske drivers. “There was a body fit violation on the rear attenuator. As quick as this process happens, we ran them through tech, we got everybody in line. Prior to qualifying, they decided to pull out of line.”

The consequences were severe for Team Penske, with all three cars set to start in 10th, 11th, and 12th positions, a far cry from their anticipated placements. The missed opportunity to showcase their skills in the Top 12 session left a bitter taste for the team as they reflected on what could have been.

As the dust settles on this qualifying debacle, Team Penske finds themselves in a precarious position, grappling with the aftermath of a misstep that could have far-reaching implications. Will they be able to bounce back from this setback and reclaim their dominance on the track? Only time will tell.
