Suzuki has just unveiled the electric version of the Vitara, the first 100% electric model intended for the global market.

Based on the concept car “eVX,” which was presented at the Auto Expo in India in January 2023 and at the Japan Mobility Show in October of last year, the e-Vitara is part of Suzuki’s electric offensive in Europe, which will accelerate starting in 2025.

The production version of the electric SUV from the Hamamatsu brand measures 4.27 m in length, 1.80 m in width, 1.63 m in height, and has a wheelbase of 2.70 m. The new model will be produced in India at the Suzuki Motor Gujarat factory starting next spring and will feature a striking design with large diameter tires.

Inside, Suzuki promises that the new SUV will incorporate an integrated screen with advanced equipment and an instrument panel with a robust-looking central console, which also reflects the “High-Tech & Adventure” philosophy.

The new e-Vitara is based on the newly developed “HEARTECT-e” platform, designed specifically for electric vehicles. With a lightweight structure and high protection for high-voltage systems, it offers a spacious interior and short overhangs. Its main surface eliminates elements under the floor to maximize battery space.

In terms of powertrain, the e-Suzuki is equipped with an eAxle electric propulsion system that combines a motor and an inverter, along with lithium iron phosphate batteries (with a capacity of 49 or 61 kWh).

The 4×2 version features a motor with 144 hp of power with the 49 kWh battery, while the variant powered by a 61 kWh battery delivers a power output of 174 hp. Both versions have a maximum torque of 189 Nm.

Suzuki also revealed that the 4×4 version with all-wheel drive utilizes two eAxle systems, one on each axle, with one producing 174 hp on the front axle and another with 65 hp on the rear axle, which together deliver a total power output of 183 hp and a maximum combined torque of 300 Nm.

As expected, the e-Vitara is equipped with the “AllGrip-e” electric all-wheel drive system, which brings together all of Suzuki’s experience in four-wheel drive technology. This system not only provides powerful performance but also allows for precise control and excellent responsiveness. Additionally, it includes a Trail mode that enables a smooth start on rough terrains by applying brakes to the wheels that have lost traction and distributing torque to the opposite wheel, effectively functioning as a limited-slip differential.

“The e-Vitara is our first 100% electric model, developed through trial and error, to create an electric vehicle that is easy for our customers to use,” said Toshihiro Suzuki, president of Suzuki.

“With the goal of achieving a carbon-neutral society, we will offer a wide variety of options, including electric, hybrid, and CNG vehicles, tailored to each region. The introduction of the e-Vitara represents an important milestone in achieving carbon neutrality. After the launch of the e-Vitara, we will continue to expand our range of electric models and provide mobility solutions tailored to the needs of specific countries and regions,” concluded the president of Suzuki.
