McLaren is preparing the successor to the P1 and everything points to the new model not using traditional butterfly doors.
According to “Automotive News Europe”, the successor to the P1 is expected to use gullwing doors, which if it happens will be a first for a McLaren model.
Thus, the new doors will be attached to a carbon fiber chassis being developed by McLaren. Unlike butterfly doors that are hinged on the A-pillar, gullwing doors are connected to the roof.
The successor to the P1, which has been named P18 for now, is expected to have a plug-in hybrid powertrain with a V8 engine and an electric motor, and everything points to it delivering more power than the current P1’s 903 hp.
The new supercar from the house of Woking will be the next edition of McLaren’s Ultimate Series, which was recently expanded with the arrival of the Grand Tourer Speedtail and the Speedster Eva, and is expected to be unveiled by the end of the year.
