Lance Stroll, a member of the Aston Martin F1 team, has expressed his unwavering dedication to the Formula 1 venture and rejected any notion that he is immune to pressure due to his father’s ownership. Stroll joined the Silverstone-based team in 2019, after his father, Lawrence Stroll, took over the team the previous summer. Despite trailing his teammate in the championship in the last five seasons since his move, Stroll remains steadfast in his commitment to Aston Martin. Last season, Stroll finished a significant 132 points behind Fernando Alonso, who secured all eight podiums for Aston Martin. Despite facing criticism regarding his motivation, Stroll made it clear that he has no intention of leaving his current position with the British team. During an interview in Monaco, Stroll reaffirmed his commitment to Aston Martin’s F1 venture, emphasizing the team’s growth from a small group of 350 to 400 individuals in 2018-2019 to now exceeding a thousand members. He expressed his excitement and dedication to being part of this evolving project.
Despite Aston Martin’s inability to replicate its impressive performance from a year ago, Fernando Alonso chose to sign a long-term contract extension with the team.
Stroll Sr.’s ambition to turn Aston Martin into a championship contender has resulted in investments in a new headquarters in Silverstone and a partnership with Honda for their engines starting in 2026.
“It is truly remarkable to witness the progress we have made as a team in the last five years,” Stroll expressed. “We have experienced tremendous growth since our days with the pink color.”
“We are currently building an exciting wind tunnel and moved to an incredible facility in Silverstone last year.”
“There are numerous elements coming together, thanks to the talented individuals who have been with us at Silverstone for many years, as well as the new additions. This project is incredibly exciting.”
“So, in my opinion, my focus is definitely on the future.”
Stroll also rejected the idea that his father’s direct involvement with Aston Martin has diminished his motivation to perform, as his position is secure.
“I am the most competitive person I know and always strive to stand out and perform at my best,” he explained.
“It’s great, even during challenging times. It was good to score some points last weekend in Imola. I still enjoy that feeling.”
“I am my harshest critic on days when things don’t go well, but I remain just as excited and happy when I have a fantastic day. That feeling has driven me in the last seven to eight years in Formula 1. It motivates me to keep moving forward.”
“And yes, I hate having bad days, just like everyone else in this paddock. It’s a collective effort and it’s exciting to be part of this journey and project. Seeing all the components come together at Silverstone fills me with positivity and excitement, despite the challenges we face this year.”
“But I still see many reasons to be positive and excited.”
