Steve Nielsen appointed as Alpine F1 team manager in dramatic power move

Breaking News: Formula 1 Shakeup as Alpine Appoints Steve Nielsen as Team Manager

In a surprising turn of events, the Alpine Formula 1 team is on the brink of introducing a new team manager, the seasoned figure Steve Nielsen. With a remarkable career spanning back to 1986 when he started out as a humble truck driver for a Formula 1 catering firm, Nielsen, now 60, brings a wealth of experience to the table.

Having traversed through prominent teams like Lotus, Tyrrell, Honda, and Arrows, Nielsen truly made his mark during his tenure at Benetton, working closely with the infamous Flavio Briatore. Briatore, now serving as the executive advisor for the Alpine Formula 1 division, is seeking stability after the unexpected departure of Ollie Oakes in the aftermath of the Miami Grand Prix.

Oakes’ exit was clouded in controversy as it coincided with legal issues involving his brother, William, further adding to the intrigue. Despite no wrongdoing on Oakes’ part, the circumstances led to his departure, paving the way for Nielsen to step into the crucial role.

With a track record that includes stints as sporting director for Toro Rosso and Williams, Nielsen’s reputation precedes him as a highly-respected figure in the paddock. His brief tenure at the FIA, though cut short after 11 months, further underscores his pedigree in the world of motorsport.

Sources within Motorsport.com reveal that Nielsen is poised to assume the pivotal position of team manager at Alpine, a role that is expected to encompass the duties of a traditional F1 team principal. In this capacity, he will directly report to Briatore, heralding a new chapter for the Alpine team in the fiercely competitive world of Formula 1.
