Stellantis will produce a new hybrid version of the 500e electric car at the Mirafiori factory in Turin, Italy, starting in the first quarter of 2026.
The confirmation of the decision came in a statement from Stellantis, after CEO Carlos Tavares held a meeting in Turin with union representatives who had long been requesting the company to increase production at the historic Fiat factory.
Currently, the Mirafiori production unit produces the 500e model, but a global slowdown in sales of fully electric vehicles led Stellantis to significantly reduce production volumes, introducing extended periods of work stoppage.
Carlos Tavares stressed the importance of offering “affordable and high-quality cars to Italian customers, which involves working on Stellantis’ competitiveness in conjunction with its suppliers and Italian institutions.”
Stellantis also mentioned that the development of affordable models also depends on external factors, “such as the cost of energy, the network for charging 100% electric vehicles, and market support tools, as well as activities to encourage conversion and requalification.”
Furthermore, the statement also mentioned that a new hybrid version of the Jeep Compass will be produced at the Melfi factory in southern Italy.
“The shared ambition with the Italian government to reach one million vehicles produced in Italy by 2030 will require a favorable negotiating environment, currently conditioned by the uncertainties of electrification and strong competition from new market operators,” concluded the statement from Stellantis
